Guide to terms used throughout Prosperity LMS and related documentation
It has been our experience that every customer has a slightly different set of terminology with which they typically refer to common training elements. You may find that Prosperity’s terminology is different from what you are used to; this guide is designed to help you easily understand and navigate your Prosperity LMS.
Course: Contains a single item of content or a topic for a live class. Can have Related Materials, Exam, Completion Certificate and/or Assessment attached to it. Must be in a Program in order for anyone to take it. Can be in more than one Program.
Program: Contains Courses and Activities and sets rules and filters for the training. Every Course must be in a Program in order for anyone to take it. Can have Related Materials, Completion Certificate and/or Assessment attached to it.
Activity: A checklist that you can use to check off the completion of tasks that are accomplished or controlled primarily outside the LMS. For example, on-the-job training or the completion of paperwork. An Activity is part of a Program and can optionally be required for Program completion. You can attach files and/or allow students to upload files. You can choose whether to allow students to check off Activity objectives or require that only admins can do so.
Class: A live training event (either face-to-face or online) with a day, time, and place (physical or online), that is based on a Course with a delivery type of Classroom.
Assessment: A feedback survey that can be used as a course evaluation or self-assessment. Not to be confused with Exams, Assessments have no right or wrong answers and are generally used for collecting opinions or other self-reported data, not assessing knowledge levels.
Exam: A quiz or test of knowledge attached to a Course. There are three types of exams:
- Full Exam: as the name implies, this is the final test which a student is required to pass in order to complete the course. It has a minimum passing grade, and scores and pass/fail status are recorded in the student’s record.
- Pretest: a practice test, which is not scored or recorded.
- Scored Pretest: A pretest which is scored and recorded. Together with a Full Exam, you can use this to demonstrate knowledge transfer by showing the difference between the Scored Pretest scores and the Full Exam scores.
Enrollment: Refers to a Program.
Registration: Refers to a Course, Class, or Activity
Training filtering/availability: There are two main training filters in Prosperity: Job Roles (optional) and Companies. These control which training a student has access to. A student must pass both filters in order to get access to training.
- Job Role: A category in which you can place students in order to filter which training they can access. A student can have more than one Job Role. If Job Roles are enforced (let us know whether you would like this or not), Students with at least one of the Job Roles associated with a Program will have access to that Program and the courses and activities in it (if their Company has access).
- Company: A group of students, arranged as needed for filtering training and curriculum rules, notifications, and reporting purposes. Students in a Company that is associated with a Program will have access to that Program and the Courses and Activities in it. If Job Roles are enforced, the student will also need to have at least one Job Role associated with the Program in order to have access.
